Agumbe is the place which i was was waiting for a long time to visit.Agumbe receives highest rainfall in south India. It was a pre independence ride i was accompanied by my buddy Sunil Kumar.
After having lunch in Agumbe we left for Varanga Jain temple in Udupi dist.We need to climb down 18 hairpin bends of Agumbe ghat. Its a jain temple located on the midst of a lake.
We started off on Aug12th i.e Saturday morning.By 7.00am we are in Nelamangala junction (Hassan Highway).Previous night there was mild showers across bangalore and the weather as expected it was cloudy. The destination is approx.400kms from bangalore. We had a target of reaching there by4.00pm.It was a nice journey on a 4 way highway we reached Hassan by 9.30 am inclusive of the breakfast time we had near kunigal.
We took a right deviation to belur highway on the way we visited the famous channakeshava temple
After visiting belur its a 150km of hardcore motorcycling across the westernghats traversing kottigehara, shringeri and Balehonnur.Would like to thank respective authorities for the good roads.
as planned we reached our destination Agumbe. We freshed up ourselves in Hotel Mallya Residency.
Which is the only hotel in Agumbe Village. It was pretty decent and value for money.
We visited Sunsetpoint, which is about 3kms from the hotel, to our dismay it was cloudy. We winded up after having dinner at the hotel.
Next day's itinerary included trekking to Kavele durga fort ,ride to kundadri betta, visit to Varanga jain temple in udupi dist. Which was about 40 kms from the hotel.
Kavale durga fort trekking will take around 4 hours please take necessary food, water and first aid along. Its a worth seeing place which is indescribable.
Our next pit stop was Kundadri Betta which was approx. 30kms from our hotel. It has a motorable road atop.
After having lunch in Agumbe we left for Varanga Jain temple in Udupi dist.We need to climb down 18 hairpin bends of Agumbe ghat. Its a jain temple located on the midst of a lake.
Next day i.e 14th Aug 2017 it was time to get back to bangalore. On our way back we visited Sirimane falls,Bhadra wildlife sanctuary
Since it was rainy season, our plans of visiting couple of waterfalls were failed.Due to heavy water current it was guarded by forest guards.
Tips - Agumbe is less commercialised you will fine one lodge, one veg hotel one non veg hotel thats it..Nearest town is thirthahalli which is 40km from Agumbe.Ofcourse 2 days is very less for the places we visited. It was like a surgical strike on western ghats.
